Six Senses, Milan - Luxury Hotel
An urban Six Senses retreat located in the iconic Brera District in Milan, overlooking the Pinacoteca di Brera museum. The building was built in the 50’s after the previous building was destroyed by WWll bombings.
Our inspiration was derived from the modernist (pre and post war) movement in Milan at the time. This approach influenced both the flow and the aesthetics of our space. We highlighted and evolved key façade architectural elements within the interior spaces, evolving in shape and form to distinguish key zones. Gio Ponti inspired geometric flooring is paired with soft curved ceiling details that guide the eye through the hotel.
The restaurant is a recreation of the quintessential Italian restaurant, with a contemporary infusion. Our floor evolved in pattern, whilst maintaining the essence of the overall geometry of the main floor plate. Smoked cathedral glass separates the restaurant from the show kitchen, giving a theatrical glow and distortion. The marble fluting of the façade is evident in various forms, guiding the design of the traditional collage wall and column details. We inserted float glass into banquettes and bar details to create a soft glow and dynamic movement when meandering through the space.
The inspiration for the spa came from the streets of Brera. We integrated the evolving plaster tonality and textures through the streets into each spa zone. Organic walls and ceiling details create a calming journey within the spa. Our floor has taken on a deconstructed form from the upper floors, which emphasises the essence of the spa – pairing back to ones natural form.
